Like many people, I’m a writer based in New York, but I spend a lot of time in Berlin. I was born and raised in West Virginia.

My essays on books and culture have appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, the New York Times Book Review, the London Review of Books, the Guardian, New York Magazine’s The Cut, Bookforum, the Baffler, the New Republic, and elsewhere. From 2015 to 2017, I was an editor at Broadly, the women’s site at Vice. Before that, I was a freelance copy editor, among other things, in Berlin. I co-wrote two books with Alyssa Mastromonaco and have ghostwritten for other people as well.

My first novel, Fake Accounts, will be published in February 2021.
